Rates

Our normal service charge is $35 per hour.

Some services which have a lot of waiting time we charge a flat fee so we can go and do another job while waiting for long processes to run. These services are as follows:

• Scan computer for Viruses: $20 per program we need to use. Quite often we scan using 3 different programs so this usually mounts to $60 + Labour for time outside of the actual scanning process we may need to isolate a problem.

• Downloading files from the Internet using our own connection: Because speeding up our Internet connection to save time actually results in higher bills for us while cutting down our sales if we were to charge by the hour, we charge $0.10 a MB rather than by the hour when it comes to downloading data for customers on the internet using our own connection. This allows us to save customers money by increasing the speed of downloading while not cutting our sales so far back that it causes a problem in keeping the business running. The price per MB may increase in the future if we were to speed up our connection again. We do round the cost of this service to the nearest $5 (which means any downloads under 25 MB are free), because when it comes to any transaction that involves coins we find that people just say “Keep the Change” in our line of business, so rounding ends up being fairer in the long term.

• Reformat: We charge $75 which covers installing Windows, the drivers for the hardware, and the latest Windows Service Pack. Usually customers want us to back up data, and get the computer as close as possible to normal again, so any additional time is charged at the hourly rate or the Download rate when it comes to installing Windows Updates. Most reformats end up coming out at the maximum cost outlined below by the time you’ve got the computer back to normal again.

We have a policy of charging a maximum of 6 hours Labour on most jobs (Hardware not included). This means that Labour for any one particular job doesn’t normally go past $210. The only exception to the rule is in cases where the customer has a list of work so long you can’t reasonably expect to get it finished in 6 hours (Rarely happens if ever). This protects the customer from high bills. Most jobs get covered within 3 hours unless it involves a reformat, and even a lot of those jobs would be less than an hour and a half.

For those wondering why our maximum for the Mobile Repair Service is $210 and the maximum for the Remote Assistance is $105, we need to mention that the Remote Assistance service is limited, in that any job that can be resolved by Remote Assistance is not likely to take more than 3 hours ($105). There are jobs that can be completed by our Mobile Repair Service that can take more than 6 hours, therefore we need to set a higher maximum price.
